At Mifa Surface Treatment we can provide complete surface treatments. We have fully automated production lines at our disposal, as well as the technical know-how to advise our customers and help them choose a solution that best meets their needs. We specialize in electroplating and offer mechanical and electrochemical surface treatments too. We can also supply polymer layers based on dip coating, spray coating, and powder coating processes, as well as priming and wet painting. It is unique for a company to have all this under one roof, and we are proud of that fact.
What is electroplating?
Electroplating or galvanizing prevents corrosion, and is the application of a thin, self-sacrificing layer of zinc, nickel, aluminium, chromium, or magnesium to steel or iron. The thin layer can be galvanically applied in different ways. One way is to submerge the suspended metal object in baths of chemical solution containing the self-sacrificing metal. Alternatively, this can be done in drums. An electric current is then used to establish the bond/cohesion between the metals. This is also called the electrolytic process.
The benefits of electroplating
After galvanizing, the product is both more attractive and functionally improved. This is the result of the thin, glossy layer on your products. Galvanization also has the following benefits:
- Strengthens the corrosion resistance of the metal
- It is a primary treatment before a powder coating (or other coating) is applied
- The product looks like new
- Dimensions do not need to be adjusted, because the layer is so thin
- The product can be bent deformed after treatmentwithout damaging the galvanic layer
- Electroplating is extremely suitable for complex shapesand objects large and small
